Chief Sock Collector
Meet Rowan
In November 2019, while her family volunteered at the New Britain Friendship Center, 10-year-old Rowan witnessed a heartbreaking sight: neighbors in need receiving a new shoe donation and some putting them on over bare, cold feet. Her simple question—"Where are their socks?"—sparked a community movement for dignity. What began as a child’s heartfelt concern blossomed into Sock Angels CT, a personal mission to ensure no one in her community has to face the winter without warmth.
From a single presentation to her Student Council, Rowan’s passion ignited a chain reaction across schools, churches, and businesses. She became a young advocate and the hands-on leader of a sock distribution effort that has now provided warmth and comfort to nearly 2,000 homeless individuals and shelter guests. Her journey proves that empathy has no age limit, and a single question can change thousands of lives.
Today, as a dedicated high school student, Rowan continues to be a beacon of compassion. Her service extends through Healing Meals, Unified Theatre, Levo International, and campus ministry, proving that her commitment to community is more than just a project,. Through Sock Angels CT, she reminds us all that small acts of kindness are the greatest steps toward change.
